Senior Lecture 10-15-2009

There is a perception that as we age, what we eat, the supplements we take, the exercise we do, Chiropractic, PT, etc… has a minimal effect.  This is simply not true! No matter your age, no matter your condition you can improve, get better, and heal.  I am here today to change your thoughts and to nudge you towards the natural wellness spectrum of health.

My name is Dr. Noah De Koyer.  I have been here a few times before and I am glad to be back.  I am a Chiropractor in an office on 33rd and Broadway that is focused on health and healing naturally.  I have a large senior patient base along with children, athletes, mothers, etc….  At my office we have a fantastic PT, a massage therapist, a holistic nutritionist on staff.  We also have and use laser therapy, the ability to fit you for orthotics and four F/D tables.  At the end of the lecture I will stay for questions.  I have to say this because I believe in what I do very strongly.  If anybody would like to schedule an appointment with me today please don’t hesitate.

OK let’s get down to the nitty gritty!!!!

I thought long and hard on how I would approach Senior Nutrition and I decided 1st to talk about what you should avoid like the plague, what I believe all individuals should be taking, and then address specific Senior concerns – Osteoporosis, Alzheimers, Hydration, Jt. Pain, and Malabsorption.  I also want to give you a flavor of how what I do fits in perfectly in your overall health picture.

  1. Artificial Sweetners
  2. HFCS
  3. Soda

Senior Specifics

Hydration – use Grandma Kate as an example

The average person loses 2 cups of water through perspiration, 2 cups through breathing, and 4 cups used by your intestines and kidneys.  That’s 8 cups a day just for living.

3 quarts a day – at least 8 glasses a day.

Osteoporosis –   Calcium – 1,200-1,500 mg

                               Magnesium 600-750 mg

Vit. D RDA 800 iu, more appropriate 2,000 iu a day

  • Exercise/Avoid soda-alcohol/Stop Smoking/Chiropractic

Malabsorption–  50% of all people over 60 years or older suffer from hypochlorhydria or low stomach acid

*Probiotics, Live foods, Digestive enzymes, and supplemental HCL

* Apple cider vinegar example

Alzeimher’s Disease – Newsday 2004

Tying it all Together

I am here today because I know I can help and there are people in this room that need what I have to offer.

A 2004 study showed that people had a higher level of gene repair who were under Chiropractic care.  I can’t say that Chiropractic can reverse the aging process but proper gene repair is the closest thing!

I bring this study up because not only can Chiropractic help you with conditions like low back pain, arthritis, and sciatica.  It also has grand implications in your overall health.

With a healthy lifestyle that includes fresh foods, exercise, avoidance of a few key things, and Chiropractic you can keep healthy and vibrant well into your 90s and above.
