Did the Spanish Flu of 1918 Save Chiropractic? Read on!

September 13, 2010

Every once in a while there is a perceived public health threat that is used not to empower people but to cause a tremendous amount of fear and control.  The most recent example of this is the Swine Flu.  It has now transcended into 2010, with the powers that be deciding  to combine the swine flu vaccine and the “normal” flu vaccine into one shot. The last bout of the Swine Flu happened in this country in 1976 and after the mass hysteria many people died and hundreds were permanently damaged and paralyzed from the very vaccine that was created to protect people.  It appears that we have not learned anything from the past and seem to be heading down the same road. This year, 2010,  Australia has banned the flu vaccine for children under 5 because of narcolepsy and fevers and Finland is about to do the same.   Please understand, I am not anti-medical establishment.  I am for empowering people to make sound choices based on fact and truth not conjecture and fear. Stand up and be the chess player not the chess piece.

Lets take a brief look at the Spanish Flu Pandemic of 1918.  This pandemic claimed somewhere between 20-100 million lives, a huge mind blowing number. An interesting little known fact is that this pandemic may have saved Chiropractic as a profession and in fact saved several thousand American Lives.

Statistics show that in Iowa 1 out of 15 people under traditional medical care lost their lives, while the rate of lost lives of those under Chiropractic care and other manual therapies was 1 out of every 789 people.  Please read that again.

Here is more stats; “In Davenport Iowa 50 medical doctors treated 4,953 cases, with 274 deaths.  In the same city, 150 Chiropractors including students and faculty of the Palmer School of Chiropractic treated 1,635 cases with only one death.

“National figures show that 1,142 Chiropractors treated 46,394 patients for influenza during 1918, with a loss of 54 patients – one out of every 886.”

I follow the information provided by Dr. Joe Mercola on nearly all health issues and topics.  To summarize his thoughts on how to protect yourself from the winter flu or swine flu for that matter is as follows;

1. Avoid Sugar   2. Get Enought Rest.   3.  Eat Garlic regularly and frequently

4. Exercise   5. Reduce your stress levels   6.  Wash your hands regularly

7. Maximize your Vit. D Levels

Along with Dr. Joe Mercola’s recommendations I want to add subluxation based – wellness – Chiropractic.

By reading the information provided regarding the outstanding results Chiropractors had with helping and keeping people alive during the Spanish Flu Outbreak of 1918 you get a sense of how powerful what we do truly is.

How is it that for one person a Chiropractic adjustment could mean mo more back pain, another no more headaches, another better more restful sleep, and yet another a more comfortable easy pregnancy?

The answer is that Chiropractic maximizes the way your body functions by maximizing the function of your nervous system.  Your nervous system controls and coordinates all systems of your body.  Chiropractic is the only profession that specializes in maintaining the integrity of your spine and nervous system.  A Chiropractic adjustment for a new born, toddler, young athlete, mature adult, and/or senior is the single most important health gift you can give. Please pass this information on.

Open Forum On The H1N1 Flu Vaccine – Sept. 15th – WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW!

September 6, 2010

Hello Everybody!  Wednesday September 15th, 7:00PM at the Office I am holding an open forum on the Swine Flu Vaccine.  The topics will be; 1. Prevention, 2. What if you are unlucky enough to get the flu?, 3. What if you choose to get the flu shot? 4. Why not the Flu Vaccine!,  and 5. Evolving 2010 updates.  Here is the rough outline.  I want all of you to have this information as soon as possible.  Please think, be the chess player not the chess pieces. Most important, before the outline please be aware the both the swine flu and “regular” flu shot is being combined this year!!!!! ***Please consult your health care professional about this information whether it be me or someone else in you health and wellness team.  Remember this is only an outline as I plan to “fill in the blanks” at the lecture.

Prevention

1. Maximize your Vit. D3 Levels with both supplementation and proper sun exposure.

2. High quality vitamin/mineral supplement

3. Probiotic

4. Eat garlic liberally

5. Stay properly hydrated

6. Astragalus – this is an herb that will fortify your immune system

7. Avoid all forms of sugar like the plague.

8. 8 hours of sleep a day.

9. Wash your hands frequently

10. Decrease your stress through prayer, EFT, meditation, etc…

11. Exercise both cardio vascular and weight bearing

12. CHIROPRACTIC – remember this supercharges your immune system.

What if you get the Flu?

1. Drink plenty of pure/clean water! Dehydration is very dangerous.

2. Get extra sleep and relaxation.

3. Try the homeopathic remedy Oscillococinum at the first sign of symptoms.

4. Try Echinacea and goldenseal at the first sign of symptoms.

5. Swallow some cut up cloves of garlic.

6. CHIROPRACTIC – remember this supercharges your immune system.

What if you choose to get the Flu Shot.

1. Get adjusted before and after your injection.

2. Immediately after the shot put a cold compress on the injection site.

3. Maximize your Vit. D3 levels.

4. Make sure your diet is full with a high quality Omega 3 Fatty Acids, Zinc, Selenium, Vit. D3, Magnesium, and Flavanoids.

5. Drink plenty of water!  Dehydration is very dangerous.

6. Rest. Rest. Rest.

7. Stay away from all Trans Fatty Acids and artificial sweetners.

Why not the Flu Vaccine.

1. Still a shade above experimental. (Combined shot)

2. In 1976, 25 people died and over 500 people got Gullian barre Syndrome from the Swine Flu Vaccination.

3. There is still Mercury/Preservatives/Adjuncts/and Stealth Viruses in nearly all vaccines.

4. The vaccine is a yearly crapshoot!

5. Hugh Fudenberg, MD, and immunogeneticist and biologist with nearly 850 papers published in peer review journals, has reported that is an individual had 5 consecutive flu shots between 1970 and 1980 (the years studied) , his or her chances of getting Alzheimer’s Disease is ten times higher then if they had zero, one or two shots.

6. In 1997 the Associated Press stated that about 70% of doctors and nurses do not get the annual flu shot.

7. The final solution of the vaccine can contain the following additives in any combination: Triton X-100 (a detergent), polysorbate 80 (potential carcinogen), gelatin, formaldehyde, aluminum, mercury, and more.

2010 Updates

1. Australia has banned the swine flu vaccine for Children under 5.

2. Finland is likely to ban or suspend the vaccine because of increased narcolepsy in Children and Adolescents.

3. YOUR CHOICE HAS BEEN TAKEN AWAY.  YOU CAN NO LONGER CHOOSE.  YOU HAVE TO GET BOTH THE “REGULAR” FLU VACCINE AND THE SWINE FLU VACCINE.

It’s Back To School – Backpack Safety is a Must!

September 1, 2010

It’s Back to School Time!  You know what that means?  It’s time to talk about Backpack Safety!  It is estimated that at least half of all student backpacks are too heavy for children to be carrying.  As a result, doctors and chiropractors are seeing more children than ever complaining of back pain, which can have long-term effects on the spine and nervous system.  Research is revealing the negative effects of improper backpack use.  Abnormal stress on a young child’s growing spine can have significant negative impacts.  Early exposure to back stress can lead to a lifetime of back problems.  So in order to minimize these effects, I would like to provide you with some helpful tips:

1.  Choose the right back pack–  Choose a backpack that has wide cushioned straps which will distribute the weight on shoulders evenly.  In addition, a backpack with a waist strap helps stabilize the weight by not allowing the pack to flop around as they walk.

2.  Make sure the fit is right–  Make sure the backpack fits properly.  The straps should not be so tight that the pack goes above the collar line and the pack should not be wider than the shoulders.  It should also be adjusted tight enough so that it does not hang more than 4 inches below the belt line.

3.  Pack Correctly– The weight of the loaded back pack should not be more than 15% of the body weight of the wearer, particularly in small children.  Also, students should pack the heaviest objects first so that they are carried lower and closer to the body.  Students should only be packing essential items and if needed, make frequent stops at a locker to exchange books.

4..  Lift Correctly– Check the weight of the backpack.  Face the backpack before picking it up.  Bend at the knees and make sure to lift with the legs, not with the back.  Put on one strap at a time.

5.  Wear Correctly– Use BOTH straps and make sure they are snug.  If there is a waist strap, use it.  Don’t sling the backpack over one shoulder.  Messenger style bag, which get slung over one shoulder, should be rotated so that they are not being carried over the same shoulder at all time.

A good way to check to see if their backpack is affecting their spine is look at their posture, especially at their shoulders.  Is one shoulder lower than the other?  This means that their posture is being affected and in turn their nervous system is being affected.  Please be aware of these effects because they can cause problems in the future.  Prevention is the key to health.  Lets all be PROACTIVE about health rather than REACTIVE to our health.  If you have any questions or if you would like me to a free assessment on the backpacks of your child please call or email me.  Thank you and have a great day!
