Did the Spanish Flu of 1918 Save Chiropractic? Read on!

Updated Oct. 1st 2012 by Dr. Noah De Koyer

Every once in a while there is a perceived public health threat that is used not to empower people but to cause a tremendous amount of fear and control.  The most recent example of this is the Swine Flu.  It has now transcended into 2012, with the powers that be deciding  to combine the swine flu vaccine and the “normal” flu vaccine into one shot and “updating it this year”. The last bout of the Swine Flu happened in this country in 1976 and after the mass hysteria many people died and hundreds were permanently damaged and paralyzed from the very vaccine that was created to protect people.  It appears that we have not learned anything from the past and seem to be heading down the same road.  In the year 2010,  Australia banned the flu vaccine for children under 5 because of narcolepsy and fevers and Finland is about to do the same.   Please understand, I am not anti-medical establishment.  I am for empowering people to make sound choices based on fact and truth not conjecture and fear. Stand up and be the chess player not the chess piece.

Lets take a brief look at the Spanish Flu Pandemic of 1918.  This pandemic claimed somewhere between 20-100 million lives, a huge mind blowing number. An interesting little known fact is that this pandemic may have saved Chiropractic as a profession and in fact saved several thousand American Lives.

Statistics show that in Iowa 1 out of 15 people under traditional medical care lost their lives, while the rate of lost lives of those under Chiropractic care and other manual therapies was 1 out of every 789 people.  Please read that again.

Here is more stats; “In Davenport Iowa 50 medical doctors treated 4,953 cases, with 274 deaths.  In the same city, 150 Chiropractors including students and faculty of the Palmer School of Chiropractic treated 1,635 cases with only one death.

“National figures show that 1,142 Chiropractors treated 46,394 patients for influenza during 1918, with a loss of 54 patients – one out of every 886.”

I follow the information provided by Dr. Joe Mercola on nearly all health issues and topics.  To summarize his thoughts on how to protect yourself from the winter flu or swine flu for that matter is as follows;

1. Avoid Sugar   2. Get Enought Rest.   3.  Eat Garlic regularly and frequently

4. Exercise   5. Reduce your stress levels   6.  Wash your hands regularly

7. Maximize your Vit. D Levels

Along with Dr. Joe Mercola’s recommendations I want to add subluxation based – wellness – Chiropractic.

By reading the information provided regarding the outstanding results Chiropractors had with helping and keeping people alive during the Spanish Flu Outbreak of 1918 you get a sense of how powerful what we do truly is.

How is it that for one person a Chiropractic adjustment could mean mo more back pain, another no more headaches, another better more restful sleep, and yet another a more comfortable easy pregnancy?

The answer is that Chiropractic maximizes the way your body functions by maximizing the function of your nervous system.  Your nervous system controls and coordinates all systems of your body.  Chiropractic is the only profession that specializes in maintaining the integrity of your spine and nervous system.  A Chiropractic adjustment for a new born, toddler, young athlete, mature adult, and/or senior is the single most important health gift you can give. Please pass this information on.

University Club of Hudson County – Recap. Wed. January 25th Meeting

February 8, 2012

Dr. Leonard Vernon

The University Club of Hudson County’s last meeting was on Wednesday, January 25th! I had the pleasure to be a guest of my friends Tom and Andrea Dugan.  Since Dr. Vernon is a Chiropractor and he was speaking about his newest book I thought it would be great to go! The University Club of Hudson County was organized on December 28th 1897 and was incorporated on October 17th 1900.  To this day it is still a strong vibrant group. This meeting was held at Puccini’s in Jersey City and they put out a fantastic spread of food and was generous with the wine as well. (1064 West Side Ave. Jersey City, NJ)

Dr. Vernon’s presentation revolved around his new book about Mayor Hague of Jersey City. The balanced view of Mayor Hague that Dr. Vernon presented was much needed.

Dr. Leonard Vernon’s four books are –

The Life and Times of Jersey City Mayor Frank Hague: I am the Law.

A Profession Persecuted: The History of Chiropractic New Jersey.

Jersey City Medical Center

Case Studies in Chiropractic MRI – in conjunction with Dr. Christopher Kent

I highly recommend all of Dr. Leonard Vernon’s Books, The University Club of Hudson County, and Puccini’s Restaurant!

What to Avoid Like the Plague

August 18, 2009

This is the title of one of the raw youtube videos that came from my last dinner talk at the office.  I encourage all of you to watch it as it describes food or food “like” substances that we should avoid at all costs. These include all artificial sweetners (aspartame, splenda, nutrasweet, equal, along with any others), high fructose corn syrup, soda, and trans fatty acids (anything that states —hydrogenated).  Just avoiding these substances alone will make you a drastically healthier person.

For those of you who have been to my dinner talks I have set a date for the next one, Saturday October 3rd 2009.  They are fun, informative, and I  always provide tremendous food and drink.  There never is a charge only that i ask that you bring a person with you that has never been to the office before.  Look for more information soon.

Here is the youtube link.
