Craziness: 69 doses of 16 vaccines by age 18! Article from the Chiropractic Journal, Barbara Loe Fisher and the NVIC

Craziness: 69 doses of 16 vaccines by age 18

According to government recommendations, starting the day of their birth until they reach age 18, American children are supposed to have 69 doses of 16 different vaccines. If they don’t, they can be barred from school, thrown out of insurance plans, and even denied access to some government programs.

“That’s three times as many vaccines as children got 25 years ago,” said Barbara Loe Fisher, founder and head of the National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC) and co-author of “A Shot in the Dark,” in an interview with Timothy Feuling, publisher of The Chiropractic Journal. “It’s just craziness.”

For the last three decades, Fisher has been working to educate parents about the dangers of vaccines and to protect their rights to make their own decisions about their family’s health care.

She become a leader in the anti-vaccine movement when her son suffered a neurological

reaction to his fourth DPT shot at age two and a half that caused brain dysfunction, including multiple learning disabilities and attention deficit disorder. At the time, she was one of the few people taking a stand against forced vaccinations. Alternative health care professions like chiropractic hadn’t joined forces on the issue and the internet didn’t yet provide the ability to reach mass audiences.

Today, her allies have grown in number and electronic communication tools allow her to reach millions of people around the world. Yet, the problem remains the same and has become even more of a threat to health and freedom.

Late last year, the NVIC and other vaccine rights organizations were taken by surprise when the state of Washington quickly and quietly passed a bill requiring parents to obtain a “permission slip” from a medical doctor or nurse in order to qualify for a religious or personal belief exemption to vaccination. Already, there are unofficial reports that many MDs are refusing to sign the necessary forms and are even refusing to see patients who request an appointment for that reason.

A press release issued May 17 by the state’s Department of Health boasted: “Washington’s rate of exemption from vaccines required for school has dropped significantly in the first year since passage of a law that changed the parental opt-out process.”

The NVIC had more time to prepare when a similar law was introduced in Vermont. Fisher’s group mobilized and alerted supporters and activists around the state, who inundated legislators with protests and packed the house hearing room. By the time the bill came up for a vote, it had been amended to preserve the philosophical exemption provision. In aBurlington Free Press article, Tom McLeod, a key member of the Vermont Coalition for Vaccine Choice, was quoted as saying, “The most dangerous place in the woods is between a mother bear and her cubs.”

Having helped win that victory, the NVIC moved on to California, where legislation (AB 2109) was introduced that, as in Washington, would force parents to go to a medical provider to get a personal belief exemption. “We’re not talking only about philosophical beliefs, but religious ones as well,” Fisher explained. “This bill would give medical doctors the right to make judgments about religious beliefs.”

Fisher and the NVIC have been playing a major role in the campaign to defeat AB2109 and the response from the public has been heartening. “At the hearings, parents with babies in their arms with children in tow have showed up and testified in opposition to the bill. I was blown away by the number of Californians who traveled to Sacramento to stand up and publicly testify against this bill.”

She gave special praise to chiropractors who have been in the forefront of the battle. “I met many doctors I’ve known since 1993, when I began talking with chiropractors about these issues,” she said. “They added so much energy and commitment.”

The pro-vaccine side was ready for her. She noted that “Medical doctors and medical students were bussed in, programmed to say the same thing: ‘We strongly support this bill and we will happily sign the form.’ I didn’t believe it and neither did any of the parents.”

On May 10, the bill passed the House and is (as of press time) awaiting action in the Senate. “This is a real battle in California,” Fisher stressed. “I would urge anyone who wants to protect the personal belief exemption, to sign up at the NVIC advocacy portal ( a free online communication network that allows people to get up-to-date, real time information about vaccine activity in their state.”

Despite the praise heaped on Fisher and the NIVC, she says the real power belongs to the health consumers and voters.

“Showing people what to do is one thing, but at the end of the day it’s the individual who has to take action,” she admitted. “Legislators will listen to organizations but they pay more attention to the constituents who re-elect them. Empowerment is at the local level, the individual level. When I saw all those parents and supporters in the hearing room, I realized that our message had been received and people had the courage to publicly testify. That’s huge. That’s what it’s going to take to roll back this encroachment on our personal liberties. This wealthy, pharma-led lobby is very powerful politically. They’ve inserted themselves into the system and that’s what we have to do.”

What does Cholesterol have to do with Chiropractic?

November 14, 2011

What does Cholesterol have to do with Chiropractic?

A government panel suggests screening kids in grade school as early as age 9 for high cholesterol. What angle should we take, hmmm!  Let’s look at high cholesterol itself.  High cholesterol is merely a symptom of an unhealthy circulatory system. If you eat processed foods, ingest an excess of trans fatty acids, a lack of omega 3 fatty acids, and do not exercise among other things it is likely over time that your cholesterol levels will raise into the supposed unhealthy range above 200! The excess cholesterol in your blood is the innate wisdom of your body trying to protect itself from the assault of your poor lifestyle choices. Cholesterol medications like Lipitor reduce your overall numbers but do not get to the real cause of the raised levels which is as mentioned above, poor lifestyle choices. So you reduce your overall cholesterol without changing your diet, exercising, or reducing your overall stress levels, a recipe for disaster!

Let’s compare this to a common Chiropractic case in any Chiropractor’s office.  A new patient comes into the office with awful migraine headaches.  She/he goes to the medical doctor and he gives this person a medication or two, maybe suggests a CT-Scan of the brain and sends this person on their way; once again treating the symptom of tremendous pain rather than getting to the cause of the headache.  The cause of the headache is likely a vertebral subluxation / misalignment in the cervical spine (neck) of this patient that is interfering with normal nerve flow causing the headache.  Remove the subluxation by a specific Chiropractic adjustment and teach the patient how not to recreate this situation and the headache is no longer a problem for this person. To summarize, both the pain of the headache and the raised cholesterol levels are both symptoms not the actual cause.  Remove the cause, poor lifestyle choices and vertebral subluxation, and eliminate the problem properly and correctly without having to introduce dangerous chemicals into the body of this patient.

What is the real underlying reason to screen grade school children?  I suspect it is to open up a whole new market for the drug companies and medical doctors to prescribe one of the biggest selling class of drugs of all time; statins!  Does anybody think for a second what this will do to our children! Cholesterol is a critical hormone that is needed by the body to create other hormones like testosterone. Not to mention we know that all statin drugs deplete the body of CoQ10 and critical nutrient for heart and muscle tissue as well as a potent antioxidant. The repercussions here are so vast I could write a novel.

Yes, I know a small percentage of people have hypercholesterolemia.  You might be able to persuade me to think this SMALL population should get tested.  This is the only people who may need to take a cholesterol lowering drug; all others can do this with proper lifestyle choices, including Chiropractic!

As an interesting side note there was just a case study in the Journal for Vertebral Subluxation Research, where a person’s cholesterol levels where reduced with specific Chiropractic care.  When a person’s nervous system is clear and tension is removed from the neuromuscular system of the human body all miracles are possible!

Getting back to the original question; what does Cholesterol have to Chiropractic? Other then the first two letters being the same it comes down to whether you choose to treat symptoms or to correct the cause of the problem.  It is my belief that correcting the cause is the only viable option when talking about the health of an individual! Removing the subluxation, the likely cause of the headache or low back pain is the same as reducing cholesterol through proper nutrition, exercise, and stress reduction.  Chiropractors by nature are and always have been Doctors of Cause!

Your health is your most valuable asset! Treat it so! Have your spine checked and adjusted on a regular basis and adjust your lifestyle appropriately to create the best you possible.

Trials and tribulations of feeding my second son Kellan.

March 8, 2010

For a variety of reasons both of my children had to be formula fed. With Hayden, after 9 tries with 9 different formulas and many sleepless nights we finally found liquid gold in the form of Nutramigen. His colic calmed and we began to sleep a little. Kellan has proven to be a little more challenging. For the first two weeks of his little life it seemed that he could handle Similac Advanced. This changed quickly and by the third week Kellan was pooping about 20 times a day. On the night of the Super Bowl my wife took him to the emergency room with bloody poop. Turns out he too had a milk allergy. We switched him to Alimentum and that helped but only alittle when then went to our liquid gold Nutramigen. This helped alittle but he was still pooping about 8 times a day and pooping through his diaper and clothes about 2-3 times a day. After a visit with the pediatric gastroenterologist and a positive occult blood test we had to go for the last bastion of hope Elecare. The cost is incredible, about $200-300 a case which will last only about 2 weeks. After about a week worth of this formula he is pooping only about 1-2 times a day and he seems to be much more comfortable. Thank God for this formula.
I learned many things from this experience.
1. Do your very best to breast feed your children. It is still and will always be the best option.
2. Swaddle, sway, and shushing are still incredibly valuable. For the best swaddle available use a miracle blanket. The Happiest Baby on the Block is a great book.
3. Soy formula remains a non –option for me as it simply contains too much manganese, is likely genetically modified, and contains too many female – like hormones in it. Remember, in all Asian Countries soy is only used as a condiment not as a primary source of food.
4. If you have to resort to Elecare Formula be sure to buy it online as it is significantly cheaper then if you order at your Pharmacy.
5. Never, never, never use the vanilla flavored version as it contains the artificial sugars sucralose and ace-K. I can’t tell you how pissed off I was when I realized this.
6. For most children specific Chiropractic Adjustments help with severe colic. Someday I will figure out why it did not work for my two sons.
If any of you have any questions please never hesitate to ask. You can respond back directly to the post or you can contact me at the office at 201-437-0033 or email me at After two children with significant allergies and having a practiced filled with children over the years, I do have some real insight into this.

Autism, Mercury, and High Fructose Corn Syrup

February 16, 2010

Autism, Mercury, and High Fructose Corn Syrup

This is the title of the Article Review Service written and researched by Daniel Murphy, DC.  The title alone should stir up feelings of concern.  Because of this I thought it was very important to summarize this Article Review.

For those of you who go to my quarterly Dinner Talks you would recall that one of the top four foods that I recommend you stay away from like the plague is High Fructose Corn Syrup. It appears that HFCS just reached the top of my stay away list.

Mercury is used to produce thousands of products including food ingredients such as citric acid, sodium benzoate, and HFCS. Mercury with no exception is a potent neurological toxin and particularly dangerous to newborns and unborn children in the womb. The newest study “clearly and reliably demonstrated significant levels of mercury in 45% of the HFCS samples analyzed.” This is truly a serious concern considering the fact that fructose consumption among US children and adults represents 10% of calories consumed in any 24 hour period.

Stay away, stay away and please read the labels of any and all processed foods!

What to Avoid Like the Plague

August 18, 2009

This is the title of one of the raw youtube videos that came from my last dinner talk at the office.  I encourage all of you to watch it as it describes food or food “like” substances that we should avoid at all costs. These include all artificial sweetners (aspartame, splenda, nutrasweet, equal, along with any others), high fructose corn syrup, soda, and trans fatty acids (anything that states —hydrogenated).  Just avoiding these substances alone will make you a drastically healthier person.

For those of you who have been to my dinner talks I have set a date for the next one, Saturday October 3rd 2009.  They are fun, informative, and I  always provide tremendous food and drink.  There never is a charge only that i ask that you bring a person with you that has never been to the office before.  Look for more information soon.

Here is the youtube link.
